Definition and Aims
of palliative Care

Palliative Care ...

  • Shifts the emphasis of health care from just curing to a more dedicated focus on the improvement in quality of life for the patient
  • Offers a support system to help families cope during the patient's illness and in their own eventual bereavement
  • Affirms life and regards dying as a normal process in the cycle of life
  • Provides relief from pain and other distressing symptoms
  • Integrates the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care
  • Provides any support that may help the patient live an active life as much as desired and possible
  • Intends neither to hasten nor postpone death

In this sense I have committed myself to this task with empathy and commitment.
